Who is this guy? Hank Blalock is one of the premier hitters to arrive at the Major League scene in years. His unique combination of batting average and power at such a young age bring to mind comparisons to Albert Pujols. Two solid years of swatting around Minor League pitchers have Blalock destined to star at 3rd base for the Rangers for years to come. For a while, it looked like Hank might never get his chance...at least, not with the Rangers. In the 2001 June Draft, the Rangers selected Mark Teixeira, perenially one of the best 3rd basemen in college baseball, and one many expected could hit at the Major League level immediately. However, as it appeared, the Rangers had intentions of switching Teixeira to 1st Base...and that means that the hot corner is Blalock's to lose. Pitchers exposed some weaknesses early on in 2002, and Hank was sent back down to Triple-A. However, instead of moping around, he went back to the business that suits him best...pounding pitchers...again, making himself one of the hottest prospects moving forward into 2003.
